6 June 08

6 June 08, Friday

It rained almost all day; at least until we arrived in Saskatchewan, Canada. We had a very strong head wind and I took it easy. Driving slower made it easier to stay on the road. Even driving only 95 kph drove the consumption up to 12 ltr instead of the normal 10.5 to 11 ltr per 100 km.

There were many places which looked like abandoned homesteads; one was especially typical: no paint, no windows, the house and the barn already leaning heavily to the leeside. I should have stopped for a picture.

We stopped at a rest area and found this plaque:

I prefer to drive on secondary roads so I can see how people live, what their homesteads look like; are they clean and orderly; you get to see the front of the houses, in other words: you can see something.

The flat land gave way to hills with cattle grazing; we even saw the odd buffalo herd. We changed over to mountain time today.
