Alaska Trip 2008 Gunnar & Gertraut

2 June 2008, Monday

We or better I have spent a lot of time getting ready for this long trip, even so long that when we were finally ready to leave, we forgot a number of unimportant things. I said that as long as we have the money and the passports, we are OK. We forgot to bring the granola I prepared and left the milk in the fridge; it is also better if the olive oil goes into the fridge because we are planning to be away for two months. Great for Daniel and Sarah, our grandchildren, they can have the ice cream out of the freezer and drink the milk.

I was quite nervous as we were leaving and I don’t know why. There is really no reason; may be because it is a very long trip with many opportunities for accidents to happen and two months is a long time.

There was some waiting at the border, but if you cross only every once in a while then it does not matter. We planned to visit our niece, my brother’s daughter somewhere in Michigan, with our trusty genie, the GPS, we had no problem finding her house. It is in a nice subdivision and our night on the driveway was very quiet; much better than on a truck stop.

Here are two of our niece’s children; they were just busy with a toad for a school project.

N 42º    W 83º     We stopped here for over night.
