8 June 08

June 08, Sunday

We left Saskatchewan behind us and crossed into Alberta. I had planned to walk around a bit in Lloydminster, Alberta and Saskatchewan  and stand with one leg in each province, but there was traffic and before you know it you are too far to do something this unnecessary.  The flat farmland changed slowly into a few hills with trees. Of course, it rained again off and on in the afternoon. At night I saw the news and there was major wind damage around Chicago and also London, Ont. So we did leave on time to escape all that wind. I would not have known where to hide with our tall Sprinter.

Driving along we saw many abandoned homesteads.

I keep thinking about the hope and all the work the people put into these places; all the work put in to build them up, and then, may be the next generation, just could not or would not make a go of it and give up, struggle no more and move away. We saw others where we could tell by just driving by that they were just hanging in there; those places needed more than just paint.

The weather was temporarily in our favour and we could enjoy lunch the way we had planned at home:

Our overnight stop was at:  N53º 35.939’   W 113º 24.160’
